Archives of Stone is a work in progress exploring how Mexico City's history is held in its stone, waterways and urban landscape. Following the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the Mexica were forced to dismantle their own temples so cathedrals and colonial buildings could be constructed from the very same rock. Fragments of pyramids live on between streets and plazas, while traces of the ancient canal network still remain. This project reimagines contemporary Mexico City through the enduring presence of the worlds that existed there before.
